Dr. Matthew Winkler is a native to the lower Hudson Valley area, growing up in Rockland County, NY. He attended the State University of New York at Geneseo, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2005. Through the course of his studies he developed a particular interest in the visual system, and after volunteering his time at variety of local eye care practices, he decided to pursue a career in Optometry. He attended Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, located in Davie, Florida. Dr. Winkler graduated this program in 2011, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Vision Science and a Doctorate degree of Optometry. While at this program, he was awarded a spot in the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa National Honorary Society for his excellence in clinical studies, and he was chosen by his peers as class treasurer and representative, serving on the local Optometry board.
Dr. Winkler subsequently trained at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina, providing eye care to a large population of U.S. veterans. This training focused heavily on the diagnosis and management of Glaucoma, Diabetic eye complications and Macular Degeneration. Dr. Winkler has clinical expertise in a wide array of areas, including ocular disease management, specialty contact lens fitting, pediatric, geriatric and low vision eye care. Outside of work, Dr. Winkler is an avid sports enthusiast who enjoys exploring the local food scene and spending his spare time with his family and close friends.
